COMPUTER TAKES ON TEXAS HOLDEM

It is hard to forget Deep Blue, the computer who took on the masters of chess in tournaments in the 1990’s. Fell Omen 2 is the Poker player’s version of this hell, an inscrutable, tell-less computer programme which made its debut at an annual contest where artificial intelligence based Poker programmes vie for the top spot.

These programmes, known colloquially as Poker Bots, are designed to calculate the odds of various hands and actions and then make bets accordingly. In December last year, a computer programme beat top online Poker players for the first time, in the ‘Man vs. Machine’ contest.

The creator of Fell Omen 2, Ian Fellows, is a researcher and statistician in the field of Psychiatry and he says that the programme shows “no weaknesses” in its play.
